Band Camp Faculty
Roger Braun
At about age five, Roger knew he would be a professional drummer, and, tired of waiting for someone to give him a drum set, he built his own. At 10, he began playing in the school band. He started a rock band at age 13, still playing his homemade drum set, and by 14 he made is first recording.
Roger earned his Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Michigan and his Master’s in Percussion Performance from the Eastman School of Music. He has toured Korea and Japan several times and has also played in Switzerland, Poland, all over North American and Cuba, where he had a wonderful experience performing and working in 2004.
His most memorable experience was a three-week tour of Japan with Keiko Abe, the world’s greatest marimbist. Roger says what he loves most about percussion is that there are so many different instruments, he can always find a new one, and even be a beginner again.
He was recently awarded Ohio University’s Presidential Teaching Award. Roger is also a composer composing for percussion, strings, and jazz. He owns his own publishing company, Ohio Percussion.
